Trail Update January to February, 2017

All Segments are open and passable but please be mindful of the following.

Segment One

Most recently the level of difficulty of this segment has been raised to Very Difficult. The Hiker is expected to rope climb, walk along a gorge and will encounter loose rocks.

Segment Three

After the passage of Tropical Storm Erika, the truss bridge over River Clear has been severely damaged. The Hiker is advised to cross through the river. Do NOT attempt crossing the bridge. Please monitor the weather before attempting this segment as the river level may rise in the event of heavy rains.

Segment Four

This Segment is passable but after the passage of multiple storm systems there are some fallen tree in the Middleham Estate. Blue paint was used to mark a path away from the fallen trees.

Segment Five

This Segment is one of our water segments and as such is very soggy.  There is a damaged suspended bridge along this segment located before the Savannah David area over the River L’or.  The Hiker is advised to cross through the river. Do NOT attempt crossing the bridge. Please monitor the weather before attempting this segment as river level may rise in the event of heavy rains.

Segment Eight

This Segment has recently been maintained and is passable. After the passage of tropical storm Erika and multiple other storm systems the landscape has been changed. Although the Segment is open, we would only recommend this segment to seasoned hikers. We would also advise that you get a guide before attempting this Segment.

Segment Nine

From reports received from hikers and hunters, there are multiple landslides. Although the Segment is open, we would only recommend this segment to seasoned hikers. We would also advise that you get a guide before attempting this Segment.

Segment Eleven

This Segment is passable but after the passage of multiple storm systems there are some fallen trees from the descent into Syndicate and Rosscastle. Blue paint was used to mark a path away from the fallen trees.

Segment Fourteen

Due to ongoing construction at the Cabrits Resort Kempinski in Portsmouth, a section of Segment 14 from Douglas Bay to Cabrits was re-routed. The new route continues onto the main road from the Douglas Bay area in Portsmouth, otherwise known as Belle Hall Beach Park, and bypasses the previous trail alongside the beach. It then continues straight in a southerly direction for a three-quarter mile and proceeds right onto the road which leads to Cabrits National Park near Monty’s Fish Grill & Bar. The route continues into the Cabrits National Park, ending near the Officer’s Quarters at Fort Shirley.
